Craig's Story - Kauaeranga Valley

Craig, his partner and sister set off for a weekend hike but discovered the bridge at the end of the loop track had washed away, making crossing the river to the carpark impossible. They had to return the way they came. Hypothermic and running out of food, Craig’s metabolic condition caused him to start losing consciousness. Activating a locator beacon meant the Westpac Rescue Helicopter could find and winch them out. “Thank you for the fast response time…” Craig says, “… you (also) rescued the two people who matter most to me and I just could not be more grateful…”
